2.  JOHN WILLIAM2 BATES (JOHN1) was born Abt. 1847 in Andover, Hampshire County, England, and died Abt. 1901 in England.  He married (1) ELIZA JANE ROBSON 23 Apr 1876 in Willesden, Middlesex County, England (Source: Marriage Registration, Hendon District, Vol 3a, Page 194.), daughter of WILLIAM ROBSON and EUPHINIA HOGG.  She was born Abt. 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and died 18 Feb 1881 in Hendon, Willesden, Middlesex County, England (Source: Death Registration, Hendon District, March, 1881.).  He married (2) EMILY UNKNOWN Abt. 1884.

 - She listed as being 34 years, "wife of John Bates, Laborour." 

 - Cause of death:  "Abscesses - 4 months."

John William Bates, residing at 30 Concord Avenue, Somerville, MA, occupation - Bricklayer; born in London, England on or about Sep. 27th, 1876 and is now about 29 years of age; that he arrived at "Burl" in the State of Vermont on or about April 27, 1897; that he made declaration of his intention to become a citizen of the United States on April 17, 1903 . . . dated September 10, 1906.  Witnesses were:  Leo Gorman residing at 16 Causeway Street, Boston, and Hugh R. (or P.) Blackwell residing at 16 Causeway Street, Boston, MA, both having known the applicant for 6 years during which time he has resided in Boston and Somerville and that he resided within the United States five years next preceding the 24th day of April, 1906.
