DOUBLE SURPRISE SUNDAY
EVENING -- Mrs. Margaret Cassidy and Son Presented Gifts
The home of Mrs.
Margaret Cassidy on Lake Avenue, this city, was the scene of a joyful family
reunion, last Sunday, when Mrs. Cassidy's four married children, returned in a
body to the old home nest to celebrate Mrs. Cassidy's 56th birthday.
The guests began to
arrive after dinner Sunday afternoon, and were greeted by Mrs. Cassidy and by
her son, Henry, the only one of the children who lives at home. He also was celebrating his 21st birthday,
and it was an amusing coincidence, that each was fully aware that the other was
to be surprised in the course of the day, but had no such thought of their own surprise.
A glorious afternoon
was spent -- the sons and daughters bestowing hearty congratulations upon their
mother and brother on the happy anniversary and the grandchildren knowing that
something out of the ordinary was going on, enjoying themselves with all the
happiness of childhood.
When the table was
spread for tea, with a wealth of good things always to be obtained at "grandma's,"
there was a little lull in the conversation and then Mrs. Cassidy was presented
with a gift of $100 in gold from her two daughters and four sons. When she had somewhat recovered from the
surprise, Henry was presented with a signet ring from his mother and brothers
and sisters and more exclamations were in order. In the evening a number of friends called to
offer congratulations.
The hours passed
pleasantly and departure for home was made at a late hour. Mrs. Cassidy is to be congratulated on
possessing such a happy family circle, who remember
the time which bind them to the old home.
Those present
were: Mr. and Mrs. James H. (sic.)
Murray, (Miss Mary Cassidy) from Somerville and children, James H. (sic.),
Francis M., Margaret F., Edward J., Helen and Anna Murray; Mr. and Mrs. John
Cassidy from Winchester and children, John F., Margaret H., Charles, Kathleen
and Francis; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Cassidy from Waverly and children, Margaret
and Henry J.; Mr. Edward Cassidy, Lynn; Mr. and Mrs. Albert B. (sic.) McDowell, (Miss Margaret Cassidy) from
Malden.

She is likely listed
in the 1930 U.S. Census as living in Woburn, age 75, a widow, with a sister,

and made her the recipient of a linen shower.
Miss Cassidy was taken completely by surprise, having been induced by

stairway and in the hall.
After this pleasing
ceremony the guests gathered in the parlor where vocal selections were rendered
by Miss Marjorie Esterbrook, Miss Mary McGrath, Miss
Josephine Roche and the hostess herself.

MISS MARGARET CASSIDY
A BRIDE -- Was Married to Mr. Albert Edward McDowell --
The home of Mrs.
Margaret Cassidy, 20 Lake Avenue, this city, was the scene of a festive
gathering last evening, when the doors were thrown open to enable the relatives
and friends of the family to tender their good wishes to Miss Margaret Florence
Cassidy, who last evening became the bride of Mr. Albert Edward McDowell.
Miss Cassidy is the
daughter of Mrs. Margaret Cassidy of Woburn and Mr. McDowell is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Albert McDowell of Malden. The
ceremony was performed at 7 p. m. at the St. Charles
Parochial residence by Rev. James J. Keegan.
The couple
were attended by Miss Mary McGrath of Woburn as bridesmaid and Mr. Elmer
McDowell of Malden as best man. Miss
Margaret Murray, the bride's little niece acted as flower girl and it is a
pretty coincidence that Miss Cassidy took that part at the wedding of the
child's mother, her sister. [i.e. Margaret Florence Cassidy acted as flower girl to her
sister, Mary Anastacia Cassidy, at her marriage to
James J. Murray].
The bride was attired
in an exquisite dress of ivory Duchess satin trimmed
with pearls and rich Irish lace. She
wore a bridal veil caught up with orange blossoms and carried a shower bouquet
of lilies-of-the-valley. The
bridesmaid's dress was of pink chiffon with an overdress of pink satin and she
carried pink bridal roses. Little Miss
Murray, the flower girl appeared in a dainty dress of white lace over pink silk
and carried a basket of pink roses, caught up with dainty loops of pink baby
ribbon.
After the ceremony a
reception was held at the home of the bride from 7:30 until midnight. The rooms were beautifully decorated with
pink and white roses and palms. Garlands
of blossoms festooned the doorways and huge clusters hung from the centre of
each ceiling, while ferns and palms stood in massive jardinieres,
their soft green coloring harmonizing perfectly with the more vivid color of
the roses.
Hardy of Arlington
catered, and the house was thronged with relatives and friends of the couple.
The bridal couple were
assisted in receiving by Mrs. Margaret Cassidy and Mrs. James Murray, mother
and sister of the bride, by Mr. and Mrs. Albert McDowell, parents of the groom
and by the Misses Bertha, Alice Ruth and Rebecca McDowell, sisters of the
groom, Mrs. Leroy Coburn and also by the bridesmaid and best man.
The young couple were the recipients of many beautiful and costly
presents testifying to the regard in which they are held by their many
friends. The bride is well known in this
city where she has always lived. She has
appeared several times in concerts and minstrel shows and as she possesses a
remarkably sweet voice her singing has been widely appreciated, by all who have
ever heard her.
Mr. and Mrs. McDowell
leave today for an extended wedding trip which they will spend in New York,
Philadelphia, and Washington. On their
return they will make their home at 602 Highland Avenue, Malden, where they have
purchased a residence.
The good wishes of a
large circle of friends accompany Mr. and Mrs. McDowell on their wedding life.

KILDUFF - MURRAY
All white Madonna
lilies against which were placed tall, golden vases of deep pink snapdragon,
decorated the beautiful candlelighted altar of St. Clement's Church, Somerville, last Saturday morning for the
ten o'clock nuptials of Miss Helen Agnes Murray, daughter of Mrs. Mary Murray
of 47 Rogers Avenue, Somerville and Lawrence Richard Kilduff,
the son of Mrs. Catherine T. Kilduff of 12 North
Warren Street, Woburn.
A large number of
Woburn residents journeyed to Somerville for the lovely holiday morning
ceremony and later attended the subsequent wedding reception and breakfast at
the Hotel Copley Plaza, Boston.
Miss H. McGlynn was the organist for the nuptials and Miss Alice
Goodhue was the wedding soloist, rendering Schubert's "Ave Maria,"
"Panis Angelicus"
by Caesar Franck, "O Lord, I Am Not Worthy," and "On This Day O
Beautiful Mother," during the Nuptial Mass.
Four ushers assisted
in the guest seating, Mr. Edward Boyle of Woburn and Messrs, John W., William
H. and Joseph Murray, brothers of the bride, of Somerville. Upon the arrival of the bride shortly after
the ten o'clock hour, they led the processional followed by Miss Mary Virginia
Murray, a sister of the bride, of Somerville, as maid of honor, and the
charming bride who was escorted by her brother Mr. James J. Murray of
Somerville, followed to be met at the Sanctuary by the bridegroom and his best
man, Mr. David Roche of Woburn.
Monsignor Robert Barry
read the marriage service and was also celebrant at the Nuptial Mass which
followed.
Miss Murray chose a
portrait wedding gown in lustrous white satin, full skirted which cascaded into
a long train and her simply draped veil of matching bridal illusion billowed
over the train of her dress. Her round
formal bouquet of bride's roses was centered with orchids.
Her sister as her only
attendant carried an arm bouquet of talisman roses, as she rustled faintly [sic.]
down the church aisle in a gown of dusty pink taffeta, made with a smooth,
small bodice and full, draped skirt. Her
hat and accessories were in the same becoming shade.
Mr. and Mrs. Kilduff will honeymoon in New York City and Washington,
D.C., and upon their return they will live in Woburn.
The bride, a Boston
secretary, is a graduate of the Chandler Normal School. Mr. Kilduff
who was educated in Woburn schools, was graduated from Woburn High School with
the class of 1931. He is employed by the
Financial Transportation Company of Boston.
